30pm EDT – Lonely Speck

The Lonely Speck Discord Server Is Live

Over the years, one of the most meaningful parts of running Lonely Speck has been hearing from so many of you—sharing your photos, asking thoughtful questions, offering your own tips and insights. Some of my favorite conversations and idea starters have been inspired through a quick email or a blog comment, often from a fellow night photographer halfway across the world.

Now, I’m excited to open up a more immediate way for us to connect.

Join the Lonely Speck Discord

The new Lonely Speck Discord server is now live. It’s a place for anyone interested in astrophotography—whether you’re just getting started or have years of star-chasing behind you. The goal is simple: to create a casual, welcoming space where we can talk about the night sky, share our work, troubleshoot gear questions, and learn from one another. More transient, immediate content, random ideas and questions, as well as your own contributions, will live on the Discord server. lonelyspeck.com will still be home to my more permanent content such as YouTube films, gear reviews and in-depth tutorials.

Whether you’re experimenting with panoramas, figuring out post-processing, dealing with processing problems, or just looking for inspiration, this is a space where you can be part of the conversation and I can respond more immediately.

First Hangout: July 10, 8:30 PM EDT

To kick things off, I’ll be hosting a live online hangout on the server:

🗓 Wednesday, July 10
8:30 PM Eastern / 5:30 PM Pacific
📍 On the Lonely Speck Discord Voice and Video Chat

It’ll be an informal chat—I’ll be there to say hello, talk a little about some current thoughts on landscape astrophotography, and mostly just hang out and hear from you. Think of it as a virtual campfire for anyone who loves to capture the night sky.

How to Join

You can join the server using the invite link below:

Once you’re in, feel free to introduce yourself in the #introductions channel, check out the latest icebreaker threads, or just jump into the general astrophotography chat.

Thanks, as always, for being part of this community. I’m looking forward to seeing where this new space takes us—and to talking more about the skies we love to photograph.

See you there.

— Ian
