The subject of the doc – Joseph Koch Comics Warehouse in Sunset Park, Brooklyn – will be open to the public daily 12-7 PM until the end of July. After that, after 35+ years, the warehouse closes. Visit them at:

On to the documentary – it officially comes out on Sun – on YouTube (but may be available to view earlier). I am wrapping up work on it now.  Will post link at this blog when the movie is out (UPDATE – link – https://youtu.be/De6AXHsD5d0?si=QoqLZAJlJM-NmoBv). The doc will be 1 hour and 13 mins long – and will feature:

– Intro and notes by filmmaker

– A tour of the warehouse in its last days, w/ Joseph Koch

– An interview w/ a Brooklyn based graphic novels fan who recently visited the warehouse

– fantasy/superhero/comics type transitional scenes

– History of the warehouse and comics related stories interview w/ Joseph Koch

– A visual segment that combines 4th of July fireworks in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with comics type images, and shots of the comics warehouse in its last days

– lots of great shots of NYC – including Sunset Park area, Bay Ridge, Manhattan

Official description:

The documentary is like a fun conversation about the comics world – specifically Joseph Koch Comics Warehouse. It celebrates the warehouse, talks about its history, and visually documents it on its final days.

About the filmmaker: This feature doc (1 hour 13 mins long) was directed, filmed, edited by NYC (Brooklyn) based indie filmmaker Sujewa Ekanayake. Ekanayake is presently at work on the new fiction feature sci-fi comedy 53 Spaceships. Some previous films: Cosmic Disco Detective Rene (2023) – fiction feature, sci-fi comedy, The Secret Society For Slow Romance (2022) – fiction feature, comedy/romantic comedy, Werewolf Ninja Philosopher (2018) – fiction, detective comedy/fantasy.
