I met Laurie and Nina near the Saratoga Library to draw the blossoms and mustard bloom. Unfortunately, a storm had blown through a few days before this, and the mustard had been ploughed down too, so the flowering was sparser than we expected. No matter though, we made the most of it. Here are three takes on the view before me, all using a different mix of media and techniques, and bringing together painting and drawing in transparent and opaque media.
To end our day, we visited Gamble Garden in Palo Alto, where this knobby tree caught my attention. After a loose painting-in of the big shapes in watercolor, I used a mix of pencils to add texture and definition.
